Anton/Bauer Excited to Show Off the CINE Battery Series at NAB 2016
General Manager of Anton/Bauer, Jim Boutin, answers a few questions about what attendees can expect to see from Anton Bauer at this year's NAB Show in Las Vegas, NV - including the introduction of the new CINE battery series.

What are you most excited to see at this year's
As a leader in mobile power solutions, we always look forward to seeing the latest cameras. Every year the cameras get better, and our batteries have to meet the needs of the technology. We have a new product making its debut at NAB, which was specially designed to meet the needs of high power draw, digital cinema cameras like the new RED Weapon 8K camera, so it’ll be exciting to see what the camera manufacturers unveil. Also, as a product manager, I always look forward to meeting our customers, hearing the innovative ways they use our products and most importantly, hearing their feedback.
What products/services will your company be showcasing?
This year, Anton/Bauer will be showcasing our entire range of market-leading batteries as well as our latest release, the CINE Battery Series. As I mentioned, the CINE Battery Series is specifically designed to meet the needs of high power consumption, digital cinema style cameras. In fact, our CINE battery was recently used on the soon-to-be-released RED Weapon 8K camera in one of the world’s first 8K productions. We have received incredible feedback on these batteries because they are small, lightweight and powerful. The CINE series delivers 12 amps of continuous power – a higher current than other batteries – and includes a PowerTap®, to power auxiliary accessories such as monitors, lights, wireless receivers, and any other 14V accessory. With the durability and long-lasting charge that Anton/Bauer is known for, the CINE battery also has an easy to read LCD display that conveniently reports runtime in hours and minutes when attached to a device or displays the percentage of the charge when not attached. It’s also available in both Gold Mount® and V-Mount connectors.
What trends in technology do you envision for the world of broadcast and content creation in upcoming years?
Over the last few years, we have seen camera manufacturers come out with HD, then 2K and now 4K and 6K. In fact, this year I expect we’ll see more cameras with 8K capabilities. From a broadcast and content creation standpoint, we are already witnessing the widespread adoption of 4K. There’s no doubt 4K is here, and everyone is vying to provide solutions to enable this workflow from capture to delivery. Cameras are becoming smaller and demand more power. And we’re especially interested in how content creators are outfitting their camera systems with more auxiliary equipment that also demand power. These advances in the industry mean more demands on the battery. Batteries must remain reliable and battery runtimes must remain substantial. We’ve noticed this trend, which is why we believe that our CINE Battery Series has been so well received. This means that with the latest advances in cameras this year at NAB, the CINE will provide the long-lasting charge that our users have come to expect.
What are you expecting to be "trending" or very popular at NAB 2016?
The NAB Aerial Robotics Drone Pavilion is always a very popular place during the show and many of the camera manufacturers’ booths will be the same, I’d imagine. We already know that RED will be getting a lot of attention for their new RED Weapon 8K camera and Panasonic for their new VariCam LT camera. And Canon’s also been teasing an 8K camera of their own, so I expect there will be some other great cameras that’ll be released during the show.
What events are you most excited to attend at the show?
I’m hoping to catch the Keynote speaker Ben Sherwood from Disney.
Are you holding any special events at the show? If so, what are they?
For those who are unable to attend NAB, our sister brand Teradek will be hosting their ever-popular Teradek LIVE Show. Viewers at home will have a chance to hear the latest news and trends from a variety of brands and content creators. We are very excited to have director and DP Phil Holland attending, who used our CINE batteries on one of the first 8K productions in the world. He will be discussing the new RED Weapon 8K camera, the CINE battery, and his experience using them. He will also be talking about his short film Forged, which has received hundreds of thousands of views on social media already.
How do you reinvent yourself each year at each NAB show?
NAB is always a great show for Anton/Bauer. It’s a great place to listen and gather great feedback from our customers. By gathering this feedback at the show and throughout the year, we can solve a problem or address someone's need and typically that results in a new product launch.
Anything else you'd like to add?
We would love for attendees of the NAB show to stop by the Anton/Bauer booth (C6025) and demo our new CINE batteries! See you there!
