V-Nova Showcases PERSEUS™ 4K/UHD contribution solution, as well as the new OTT SDK at NAB Show 2016
What are you most excited to see at this year's NAB show?
This is only the second year that we will be attending NAB Show as V-Nova. Things have moved very quickly since our public launch last April 1 and we are very excited about the future. Foremost, we look forward to live 4K/UHD use cases, as we strongly believe that 2016 is the year 4K/UHD will “come into its own” across broadcast and OTT. We are also curious to see how far High Dynamic Range (HDR) has evolved since last year, and how advanced operator rollout plans are.
What products/services will your company be showcasing?
We plan to showcase our V-Nova PERSEUS™ 4K/UHD contribution solution, as well as the new OTT SDK that we announced last week. A core feature of the V-Nova PERSEUS OTT SDK is its capacity to power Full HD video streaming over bandwidth-constrained mobile networks while being able to integrate with third party encoders and video players to make high quality content available to the masses. We endeavour to offer real solutions to the challenges that our customers are facing – and will be making more exciting announcements closer to the show!
What trends in technology do you envision for the world of broadcast and content creation in upcoming years?
We see a clear industry shift, as 4K has transitioned from an exciting concept to a commercial reality. Last year, there were a number of deployments announced by leading content providers such as Netflix and Amazon, as well as sports content providers committed to improving the consumer experience. This included the MediaPro broadcast of the 'El Clasico' football match between Barcelona and Real Madrid last year, which used our V-Nova PERSEUS™ solution to push the boundaries of what was previously considered feasible for a live 4K broadcast. We expect that in 2016 4K/UHD will increasingly become available to the masses, with sports being one of the main beneficiaries of Ultra HD video processing.
What are you expecting to be "trending" or very popular at NAB 2016?
At NAB 2016, 4K/UHD will continue to be a “hot” topic, followed closely by HDR. NAB 2015 abounded with questions related to the technical hurdles preventing 4K/UHD mass adoption, this year we expect an increased focus on solutions enabling commercial deployment – both for broadcast and OTT.
What events are you most excited to attend at the show?
NAB is about people and content. It is an unsurpassed opportunity to catch up with old friends and colleagues in the industry and media, and to see the “latest and greatest” on the countless stands! NAB is, indeed, unique in TV & Media, distilling all the industry has to offer in an action-packed, informative and fun few days. Good thing that “what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas”! We are also excited to be kicking off NAB on a high note as I will be a co-panellist at the 4K panel organized by NAB Live TV at 10:30am on Monday, April 18.
Are you holding any special events at the show? If so, what are they?
You will find us at our press event on Monday, April 18 at 15:15 in Room N242, where we will present the latest developments of our V-Nova PERSEUS™ signal processing solution. We hope to see you there!
How do you reinvent yourself each year at each NAB show?
We are fairly new to NAB, having only publicly launched last year, so we have not really needed to re-invent ourselves other than to focus on what consumers want and the industry needs. In a nutshell, this includes: 4K over existing fixed infrastructure and 4G mobile infrastructure, Full HD OTT to mobile devices over 2G/3G/4G networks, and quality SD video to the billions of people who access the internet via 2G networks. As such and since NAB Show 2015, we have been focusing primarily on enabling 4K and delivery of OTT in bandwidth-constrained environments. This has included proofs-of-concept and commercial deployments with industry partners and customers.NAB will be a good opportunity to see how far we have come since launching our mission to deliver greater efficacy and profitability in the capture, transport, distribution, and storage of video.
